The inter and intra-sectoral nature of the stakeholders and multi-scale of dependencies on natural resources often converges into conflicts and contradictions in a society driven by material motives. The role of Government agencies on the helm of affairs as implementing authority gets lesser acceptance in such complex situations. To meet such challenges, specific policies and institutional frameworks have to be formulated for sustainability and prudence with the help of facilitators. CED focuses on delivering viable solutions and services for integrated rural and urban development. It also deals with sustainable utilization of resources by providing solutions to reduce regional disparities and evolve new panorama for sustainable regional development. This Program Area also focuses on studies for formulation of policies in the fields of health and sanitation, biodiversity conservation, local governance, land and water resources management, coastal zone management etc.
